Crucial’s “Bad to the Bone” Sweepstakes

Sweepstakes. The very word conjures up thoughts of a white-haired guy in a suit running up to your front door to give you a check for some large sum of money. Unfortunately, the problem with this situation is that it never happens to anyone I know. Wait, scratch that. When I was in high school, my English teacher had won a few million dollars in the lottery and she continued to come to work out of her own volition. Still, the lottery is not a sweepstakes but its close enough. Just to make one thing clear: I would never participate in those mailers with the funny little stamp things, but I’ve wondered if it could be me that wins.

Enter Crucial’s “Bad to the Bone” Sweepstakes.

They ask for your email address, name, address, birth date and rights to enslave your first born child. Okay, maybe not your first born but giving out an email address to a corporation always worries me regardless of their claims to not share it with anyone. I mean, how many software upgrades and pharmaceuticals can I buy and still have enough money left for Top Raman gourmet dinners? However, if you are still inclined to enter because you have nothing to lose, then it wouldn’t hurt to know what the contest is about.

Crucial is giving away three Shuttle XPC SD11G5 barebones systems in exchange for entrants answering a question regarding Crucial Ballistix memory. Ballistix is a hopped up brand of overclocking friendly memory. Unfortunately the days of overclocking my Pentium 120Mhz to 133Mhz for that little speed boost in OS/2 are over now so I’m not sure how useful of target audience I am.

With that said, I hope I win because, after all, I have nothing to lose.
