Ferrari 575 GTC

The 575 GTC is aimed at private teams participating in the FIA GT championship and will make its debut at the end of the 2003 season. It will also appear in other Granturismo series like the American IMSA and GrandAm series. The `C´ in the name stands for `competizione ´.

The 575 GTC is the racing version of the 575M Maranello. In order to cope with the demands of the track, it is equipped with even more technological advances than the superb road version .

The displacement of the 65° V12 has been increased to 5,997cc with a maximum power output of close to 605 bhp, and the car boasts a sequential shift. The track has been widened, the brakes increased in size and, thanks to the use of composite materials, the body has been lightened. The tubular steel chassis features boxed sections and the all-round wishbone suspension features adjustable antidive geometry.

The car has a split rear wing with a nolder. This set up is the fruit of extensive aerodynamic research in the wind tunnel, something that was also carried out for the adjustable front spoiler and the undertray with its rear extractor.

Windows Vista product editions revealed

I was reading Arstechnica about Windows Vista coming in seven different editions. For those that aren’t in the know, Windows Vista is the version of Windows that replaces Windows XP. It’s sort of a crappy plan in my opinion because no single version seems to give me what I want. I would like the Ultimate Edition minus the free downloads because those are useless to me. However, I want to the network backup solution provided by the Small Business Edition with the Virtual PC integration that comes with the Enterprise Edition. It just seems more likely that I won’t be upgrading to Windows Vista on any of my current systems because it isn’t going to provide me anything worthwhile. Yes, I can upgrade the RAM and video cards in the desktop machines but to what end?

Why the iPhone won’t rock your world

I agree with the comments made in the article regarding the imminent failure of the iTunes phone that was just released. The argument is that Apple innovated and transformed itself in the digital music arena which was met with great success and destroyed the old business model of the music industry. A truely revolutionary convergance product from Apple would have done the same thing–only this time the victims would have been Apple’s own iTunes and iPod product lines. Therefore it’s obvious that Apple cannot risk the cash cow of its current core business model. Consumers will have to wait for the next company to come along which has to break into a market with innovation instead of protecting it’s core interests.

Supercharger available for Audi S4 (B6)

AmD Technik has released a supercharger system for the last generation Audi S4 (B6) which bumps power output up by 300 horsepower and 220 lb/ft torque. The net result is an all wheel drive Quattro S4 with 640 horsepower and 540 lb/ft of torque. The only draw back is the cost which is in the ballpark of $40,000 US dollars on top of the purchase price of the car. Worth it? Maybe, but I’d rather take two Audi s4 (B5) (my old car) with Stage 3 kits.

Here are the specs:

Up to 80% more BHP and 75% more torque.
Up to + 300+BHPbhp and 220+LBSlbs/ft

  • 640+BHP 540+LBS Torque

Running Apple OS X on an Intel CPU

Note: Some of this information may be out of date. Although I try to provide updates to posts as postscript, many times an entirely new post may be necessary. Click one of the tags above to find the latest entries by the subject matter you are interested in.

First of all, if you are lost after reading that Apple OS X runs on Intel-based computers (i.e. Dell, HP, IBM, etc. branded machines) then go to my earlier post to get some background.

I just wanted to post some links to places to get more info with some blurbs on recent updates.

As always, I don’t condone piracy so please don’t do anything illegal.

iPod Nano Disassembled

Someone decided to take apart their new Apple iPod Nano and take pictures. The site is in Japanese but it doesn’t take a genius to figure out what’s going on.

Mercedes Benz ML63 AMG

Looks like Mercedes is moving away from the supercharged 5.5L V8 that they’ve been running. They are now moving to a normally aspirated 6.3L V8 that produces about the same amount of power (510HP). I still can’t get over the fact that the new ML looks like a Kia.

iPod Nano and iTunes Phone released

The iPod Nano was just released by Apple. It’s going to be rather pricey at $199 for 2GB and $249 for 4GB. It’s going to be available in black and iPod white. Yes the iPod Mini has been discontinued because the Nano is taking it’s place. The website is down (it’s fowarding to the Apple Store) but you can still buy them (but why?).

…the device features a color display and can support photos, uses a grey click wheel to navigate, and is 80 percent smaller in volume than the original iPod — thinner than a number two pencil, said Jobs. The iPod nano weighs 1.5 ounces or 42 grams.

The iTunes Phone was just released too. It’s called the Motorola ROKR E1 and will be a Cingular exclusive phone for now. It is available for purchase as I type this.

Motorola has officially taken the wraps off its first ROKR phone, the Motorola ROKR E1. Apple announced the device in tandem with Motorola at an event this morning in California. Motorola is throwing a party for the E1 this evening in NYC and MobileTracker will be there to get a hands-on look at the E1.

The ROKR E1 is the phone that was called the E790 in some rumors. Design wise it’s very similar to the popular E398. The E1 is also the model that was approved by the FCC late last month.

Spec wise, the ROKR E1 has the following:

* iTunes (plays MP3, AAC, and protected AAC) with dedicated music key
* microSD (TransFlash) slot for up to 512MB of storage
* VGA camera with flash
* Bluetooth
* Stereo headset jack
* Stereo 22KHz speakers on the handset itself
* USB
* 176 × 220 pixel color display
* Rhythm lights
* Video player that supports MPEG4 & h.263

The Motorola ROKR E1 is a Cingular exclusive currently, but this is just the first of several ROKR models. Readers may remember that Motorola showed off a ROKR model at the annual analyst meeting in Chicago recently and it was different from the E1 (it had a front camera which signals that it is a 3G handset).

iTunes 5.0 should be out soon as well is out along with Quicktime 7.0 for Windows.

Also Jobs said that 30% of new cars (i.e. Acura, Audi, BMW, Ferrari, Honda, Infinity, Mercedes, Mini, Nissan, Scion, Volkswagon, and Volvo) will have an option to connect an iPod.

All in all, it’s another big day for Apple. Oh, am I going to ever buy an iPod? NO!

Bugatti Veyron 16/4 spotted in SoCal

This car was spotted by someone who went to Rusnak Porsche in Pasadena. It’s a Bugatti Veyron 16/4 with California dealer plates. Notice the rear configuration is very different from the test mules over the last few years. Where is the spoiler?
